Lefty Puts 4th Competitive Effort at DED
Left Coast Dreams (by Haynesfield out of LA Dreamin) was called on to elevate his competitive ability tonight at Delta Downs (DED), and he stepped up in his 3YO debut to show he’s got a big heart. Entered in an allowance race on 10 days rest was a big ask; but that didn’t stop Lefty as he put forth an all-out effort from start to finish.
Outpaced from the start and next to last going into the Clubhouse turn, Left Coast Dreams had his work cut out for him down the backstretch. When Jockey Chris Rosier asked Lefty to lengthen his stride and get up with the front runners, the horse responded. Around the far turn, Left Coast Dreams split rivals and put in a bid for 2nd. At the top of the stretch, he started running out of gas and a pair of closers passed him coming down the center of the track. It was Lefty’s competitive spirit that allowed him to keep digging and hold on to finish 4th.
After the race, JR Caldwell (Mojo’s Trainer) said: “I’m really proud of the way Lefty ran against the other horses tonight on short rest. I would’ve liked to give him another week or two between races, but we had to take a shot. Lefty proved he has the racing heart no matter what we ask him to do or when we ask him to do it.”“Tonight’s race was a creative/good start to the new year,” explains Fred Taylor (Mojo’s CEM). “The race options for 3YOs (only) are spaced further apart these days, and we weren’t sure when another race for Left Coast Dreams would come up. Since Lefty is in good form, we wheeled around and tried this. Once again, Lefty continues to demonstrate he’s a reliable/competitive runner, and he’s doing his part to provide our Partners and Fans with exciting Mojo racing action!”
