Thermistor Wins His Debut at Lone Star Park!

Thermistor Wins at LS

July 15, 2017

On a hot summer day at Lone Star Park, Thermistor (a.k.a. Mr. T), Mojo’s two-year-old Colt (by Frost Giant out of Sinister Quill) made his debut and scorched the field with Jockey Danny Sorenson up.

“This guy's a bundle of energy,” said Fred Taylor, Mojo’s CEM.  “And, Mr. T performed just as we had hoped he would."

Race Recap

As soon as the gates opened, Thermistor was out like a bullet and took the lead.  Down the backstretch, a pair of horses challenged, but Mr. T didn’t give an inch.  Going into the turn, Thermistor’s ears were pinned back and he kept to task past the quarter pole.  As they straightened for home, Jockey D. Sorenson asked Mr. T to go on with it, and the Colt responded by drawing away.  By the 16-pole, Thermistor had increased his lead and Sorenson let him coast home to win by 3 and ¾ lengths.  Mr. T galloped out strong, and was in good spirits as a crowd of more than 50 Mojo Partners, Family, Friends, and Fans were waiting to greet him for the photo in the Winner's Circle.

After the race, Mojo’s Trainer, JR Caldwell summed it up by saying: “Early on, I knew this horse had the potential to step up.  We took our time getting him ready for his first race.  And, today, he did what he was supposed to do.  I’m pleased with the way he ran, and I’m looking forward to seeing how he develops.”

“This kind of instant result doesn’t happen for us very often,” Fred explained. “We typically let our horses come into their own after a couple of races.  This guy is different, and it’s nice having an early push-button runner in the barn.  So, this was a special Mojo moment for us all to share and enjoy together.”

Now that Thermistor has broken his maiden in his first race, what’s next?

“Well, he’s built like a sprinter and he runs like a sprinter,” JR added.  “For the time being, that’s really all that’s offered for horses of this age anyway.  Since he’s galloping out strong in his works, and did so in this race, we’ll just have to see if he can handle a route of ground as he gets older. In the meantime, if Thermistor comes out of this race well, based on the way he’s performing, we’ll look for a stakes race that fits his competitive ability.”
