Mojo Race Recap: Bling's Debut Oaklawn Park!

January 24, 2015

Starting Gate BW

Mojo's two-year-old Filly, Bling It On Baby (by Pomeroy out of Majestic Glitter), made her 2015 debut in a 6-Furlong Allowance race at Oaklawn Park (OP) on Thursday, January 22.  This was Bling’s fifth start of her young racing career in which she has generated a win, two seconds, a fifth, and an eighth.

“We got the start and effort that we wanted, just not the result,” said Fred Taylor, Mojo’s CEM, after the race.

Bling came out of the gate well, and she set the pace going down the backstretch over a track that was rated as “wet/fast”.  Around the turn, she held her own; but, in a similar way as her last race, Bling ultimately gave way at the top of the stretch when the pace quickened and the cavalry charge of closers started bearing down on the Mojo Filly.  At the wire, Bling held on to finish a hard-earned 5th.

“With every stride, Bling was focused, she dug in, and kept her mind on her business,” Fred explains.  “She put forth a determined effort, and in doing so, she gave a salty field a run for the money—it was a professional effort on her part.”

Oaklawn is the big leagues, and Bling It On Baby was tested against a field of talented racehorses that have been shipped in to go after the healthy purses being offered during the meet.  Though Bling didn’t win, she ran a respectable race and finished in the top five (out of 12 horses).  In doing so, she also demonstrated she can be competitive at OP once placed at the right level.

What’s next for Bling It On Baby?  “Going forward, it’s important for us to find a race that fits Bling’s current ability, as well as offers good value to the group,” Fred explains.  “In her last two races, we’ve asked Bling to face some difficult conditions, and she’s given us very honest/hard-working efforts each time.  Now, we need to take a step back just a bit and look for a race that can build up Bling’s confidence.  In this regard, JR (Mojo’s Trainer) will be looking for a spot toward the middle of February that will give us an opportunity to get Bling’s Mojo work’n again.”

So, stay tuned for upcoming racing info about Bling It On Baby, as well as more exciting news on our other horses in training.
