Help Us Name the Mojo Trio!
January 16, 2016
Mojo started the New Year
and its 10th Anniversary giving our Fans the opportunity to participate
in the naming of Mojo’s three new horses.
(The new names will be announced on February 2.)
“We want our Fans to be
part of the Mojo action,” states Fred Taylor, Jr., Mojo’s CEM, “And, there is
no better way to get involved than by helping us name our Runners and following
them through their racing careers."
Since 2013, Mojo has
invited its fan base to offer their thoughts on names for the horses that have
been purchased from either a yearling or two-year-old in training sale. This is the fourth time that Mojo has used an
online survey to gather the results.
“We start with ideas from
our Partners and then let our Fans vote,” Fred Explains. The Mojo Partners come up with a list of
names for each horse that is checked against the Jockey Club’s Online Name
Registry. The Capital Partners vote on
the available names. The top three names
are placed in a survey. The survey is
posted on Mojo’s Facebook and Twitter pages, and our Fans are invited to vote. Our Fans can also provide their ideas if they
like. After a designated time frame, the
name with the most votes is submitted to the Jockey Club for approval (the
others are held as back-up options).
“Most of the time, the
Jockey Club approves our choices, but sometimes the popular name is too close
to a name already registered and it isn’t approved,” Fred points out. “I like names that are clever combinations of
the Sire and Dam.”
The three horses to be named are:
Colt by Broken Vow out of La Concerto
Colt by Haynesfield out of L.A. Dreamin
Filly by Macho Uno out of Shebelongstoyou
All three horses were purchased from the 2015 Keeneland September Yearling Sale and are now 2YOs.
